Luanna

Luanna Flammia is a Contemporary artist who lives and works between London and Bedfordshire. Luanna combines mixed media on canvas to create vivid abstract forms, often interpreted as landscape connotations. The popular artist is known for her use of Silver leaf and 24crt gold submerged onto and beneath layers of mixed media. Her Mediterranean palette references her Italian culture whilst her paintings' are rooted by connections within different types of relationships. The great masters of romanticism have inspired Luanna’s body of work including the Hudson River artists and Thomas Cole. Travels through India and the Black Forest in Germany have inspired depth, perspective and colour in her paintings leaving the mind not to dwell on the past, but share light to a previous experience.

A4 paper works

So what a year we’ve all experienced, whilst Covid-19 is still active, we have to Some kind of normality. When lockdown began a few years ago, We were surprised when my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

Time passed and acceptance of my mums illness became the norm, ups and downs followed within every good and bad moment.

As a family we are hopeful and optimistic about the journey and the end result, this led me to create a collection of artworks based on my mums battle through cancer, the good and bad days and the constant fight towards BRIGHTER DAYS.

Brighter Days is set to inspire all, especially those who are on a journey, my aim is to bring light back into darker days.

With over 30 pieces in the collection, all titles are key words and phrases picked by my mum and influenced by her experience through her journey. All artworks are original paintings on 400gsm card. All paintings are made with acrylic, oil, ink, gold foil and silver leaf.

We have teamed up with The Lewis Foundation who provide support packs and gifts for cancer patients during chemotherapy. We have raised over £1100 from this collection, hitting our 1k target. As an on going support for this charity we will be donating 10% of all art sales

New Collection of canvas works

This collection reflects different elements of connections, greatly inspired by pre- pandemic events, travel, exploration, discovery, love and much needed recharge from every day routine.

Each painting is reflective and reminiscent of a time and place. The depths of each paintings can be compared to the depths of the Black Forest, Germany. The vibrancy of the pigments reminiscent of colourful North and Southern India ,as well as Swiss influence of architecture, colours and patterns which infuses the painting with an overall ‘fresh’ feel.

Artist Statement

My connection with abstraction sits with past, present and future moments and experiences. It also shares themes of adventure and experiences. I have mastered a simplistic technique of layering mixed media horizontally and vertically to create both balance and range, the use of 24ct gold and silver leaf enhances these levels of perspectives whilst creating space and light but mostly importantly depth. My travels through the black forest in Germany inspired me to recreate a sense of transparency, whilst my journey from North India to South inspired the rich colours in my work, especially the pops of colour from the markets and spices.

Influential artists from the romanticism period have inspired my latest collection, such as The Hudson River artists, In particular Thomas Coles ‘Garden of Eden’ This made me question techniques of abstract painting vs the fine brushwork of fine oil painting and where abstraction would sit if crossed between. Although my paintings are far different to the masters of that time, my aim is to recreate the same sensation; Looking through trees, past the river And into the sky.

Thank you

Luanna
